How To Setup VPN on Android

There are a lot of reasons for why you’d want to connect you android device to a Virtual Private Network (VPN). In this post you will find easy to follow instructions for setting up a Point-to-Point-Tunneling-Protocol (PPTP) VPN connection on your android device.

1. Create a new VPN connection

First you will want to navigate to the settings page on your android device. You can get here pressing the “Home Icon” then press “Menu,” and then tap “Settings.” Once you are on the settings page, tap “Wireless & networks” and then tap “VPN settings.”

2. Sign up or login to your VPN account.

This next part requires you to have an account with Hidemyass VPN. If you do not have an account you can quickly signup for one right now and pay only $6.55 per month – you can do so by clicking here.

If you already have a HMA account, login to your control panel and navigate to your PPTP page to find the available server details. Fill in VPN details such as VPN name, VPN server, etc. Keep in mind that your PPTP password is different from you account password and it is shown in your control panel.

First Press the Home icon, then press Menu, and tap Settings

Go ahead and tap Wireless & networks

Then tap VPN settings (figure 2 above)

The VPN connections you have added are now listed

Tap the VPN you wish to connect to

A dialog box will open asking for your credentials, enter them and touch connect

When connected to a VPN, you will see an ongoing notification in the Status bar on your device. If you should get disconnected, you will receive a notification and an option to go back to the VPN settings.

4. Disconnecting From Your VPN

Simply open the notifications panel at the top of the screen and click on the VPN notification, then tap disconnect.

For added support, you can view this Google Support page which also helps you establish a VPN connection on your Android device.
