Bună ziua și bun venit! (Romanian for “Hello and Welcome!”). If you’re looking for a way to unblock and start watching Netflix in Romania, you’ve come to the right place! Romania is a beautiful country that has so much to offer. Unfortunately, Romania is also a country that’s largely ignored by multi national companies.
You may have heard rumors of a massive European expansion by Netflix. The company already offers streaming services to customers in the UK, The Netherlands, and a few other European countries. The word on the street is that Netflix will launch in Germany and France in late 2014.
Despite all of this expansion talk and news of Netflix raising hundreds of millions of dollars to grow quickly in Europe, I highly doubt Netflix “officially” offer streaming services in Romania anytime soon.
Don’t worry though, if you’re in Romania and you’re looking to gain access to all the awesome movies and television shows available on Netflix then you’re in luck!
Like you, I too wanted to find a way to signup and watch Netflix while living here in Europe. Being an American myself, I was extremely upset to have to miss out on an awesome service like Netflix just because I had a European/Romanian IP address instead of an American IP address.
In case you’re confused as to what I’m talking about, Netflix blocks it’s service to users trying to access the site from foreign IP addresses. To put this simply, the easiest way to access Netflix right now is to change your IP address to a US IP address. This might sound complicated, I know, but you don’t need to be a tech nerd to know how to do this.
Luckily there are plenty of awesome VPN services available to you that will change your IP address at the click of a button. Simply click “connect” to change your Romanian IP to a US IP address so you can access Netflix and when you’re done streaming videos, simply click “disconnect.”
Let me break this down for you into easy to follow steps.
Step #1 is to get yourself a subscription to a VPN service. Personally I use a VPN service called ExpressVPN. There are two reasons I use ExpressVPN: The first is that the it’s the easiest VPN to use if you’re not a technical person. The second is that it is the fastest VPN available which is important for streaming HD videos from Netflix.
Okay so go ahead and signup for your VPN subscription. You can signup for ExpressVPN here. It costs as low as $6.55 USD per month (if you pay for a 12 month subscription) which is a small price to pay to be able to watch Netflix in Romania.
Next, you’ll want to install ExpressVPN for your operating system. It works on all versions of Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and they even have an iOS application.
To install ExpressVPN, go to your members area and click the appropriate download for your computer.
This is what ExpressVPN looks like on Windows:
All you have to do is enter your username and password, select the server location you’d like to connect to and click “connect.”[box type=”note” style=”rounded” icon=”none”]Here’s a pro tip for you. Be sure to connect to a VPN server that’s as close to Romania as possible but still in the US. That would be something on the east coast, like Miami, New York, Atlanta, Boston etc. This will speed up servers. Also, some ExpressVPN servers will be slower than others because there may be a lot of people. If the server you select seems to be slow, don’t panic! Simply select another server and it should work perfectly.[/box]
Okay, after you’ve connected to ExpressVPN you can go and sign up for Netflix.
You may see a page that looks like this and says “You need a valid U.S. mailing address.” If you see this you have to clear your browser cache and cookies. Which can be done through your browser preferences/settings.
Some people have trouble paying for their Netflix subscriptions with a foreign credit card. This may not happen to you. If it does, you can easily get around this.
You’ll want to signup for a virtual debit card over at Entropay.com
Here’s how it works:
Below you’ll find a screenshot of what your virtual debit card will look like
After you have a virtual debit card loaded with enough money to get your Netflix subscription you can head over to Netflix.com and signup. Be sure to signup with a US zip code like 90210 or 14221 and you’ll be able to sign up with no trouble at all!
If you have any questions about this process just leave me a comment below. Also, if this worked for you I’d love to hear your success story as well. Thanks for reading and please share this with friends if you found this guide helpful.
