If you’ve ever tried to access Netflix in Singapore, you’ve probably realized that the site does not “officially” allow video streaming In Singapore. This is because Netflix has copyright agreements in place with the owners of the films and television shows they stream. These agreements prevent Netflix from “officially” offering there services outside of the United States and a few other western countries.
While Netflix may not be “officially” available in Singapore, there is a way you can access, sign up for, and start streaming Netflix in Singapore today. The best part is that this will take you less than 5-10 minutes to setup and you need no prior technical experience to get started. Sounds easy enough, right?
If you’re ready to learn how to start watching Netflix in Singapore, continue reading the rest of this post.
To learn how to get Netflix to work in Singapore we must first understand why Netflix does not currently work in Singapore. The reason for this is because companies like Netflix use a process called “geo-targeting” which reads your IP address to learn where you are in the world. When you try to signup for Netflix in Singapore, Netflix can see that you’re accessing the site from a Singaporean IP address and they therefore block you from singing up.
However, if you were able to temporarily change your IP address to an American IP address, you’d be able to signup and start using Netflix in Singapore right now. So the question we need to answer now is, “how do we temporarily change our IP address to an American IP address?”
While it may sound complicated, the good news is that changing your IP address is very easy to do. By far the easiest way to change your IP address is by using a VPN. VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. You can learn more about what a VPN is here but in short, a VPN is a small piece of software that enables you to quickly and easily change your IP address. The software is 100% legal to use and there are many added benefits of using a VPN service like added internet privacy and security.
The VPN I use and recommend for accessing Netflix in Singapore is called Buffered VPN. I’ve been using the company for over two years and I have no complaints.
Buffered is a software that’s very quick to install. It works on almost every operating system, PC (windows), MAC, and LINUX. You can even use it on Android and iOS devices like your mobile phone or tablet. Buffered also provides with you easy to follow step-by-step installation instructions after signing up.
Don’t worry, setting up your VPN will take you less than 2 minutes, even if you have no technical experience at all. It’s as easy as checking your email or downloading an app!
It’s a really quick download (under 2-5 minutes) and super easy to start using.
Here is what Buffered will look like if you’re using Mac:
After installing Buffered, you’ll have immediate access to thousands of IP addresses from all over the world. One of the main reasons why I absolutely love Buffered VPN is because they also always adding new servers and IP address for their customers to use.
Once you’ve entered your username and and password and selected your new location, all you need to do is click the “connect” button and your IP will show up like you are in the US and netflix, along with other US based websites, will work perfectly.
After you’ve connected you VPN and you now have an American IP address, head over to Netflix.com and signup for the service. Don’t worry if you do not have a US credit card to signup. Simply use an American Zip Code like 90210 or 14221 and you’ll be able to sign up without any problems.
