Updated on July 25th, 2017 – This method still works for accessing Netflix in Israel.

Note: I wrote this guide to teach you how to easily access Netflix in Israel. To do so, I use a special piece of software called a Virtual Private Network or VPN. The VPN I use and recommend is called ExpressVPN. The rest of this post will show you how to get started. Please leave me a comment if you have any questions 🙂

How To Watch Netflix in Israel

If you’ve ever traveled to or are currently living in the beautiful land of Israel, you already know that Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, and other websites are not available in the country. In fact, These websites are not available in most countries. Unless you’re living in the United States, Canada, UK or a handful of other countries, you probably cannot access Netflix.

Don’t worry though, I have some very good news for you. Instead of sitting around and waiting for the people at Netflix to decide to expand to Israel, let me show you an easy way to access Netflix in the land of Israel.

Also, don’t worry If you’re not a technical person. The method I’m going to show you could not be easier. Thanks to a little bit of internet magic, it’s extremely easy to access the full American Netflix library from any computer within Israel. In the rest of this post I’m going to show you how to use an easy-to-install piece of software that can easily trick your computer into thinking it is based inside the United States, allow you to access the number one internet video streaming service on the planet.

A Very Brief Technical Overview

Incase you don’t know, Netflix uses a process called geo-targeting to restrict users with foreign IP addresses from access their service. They do this because they have copyright agreements and contracts in place with the owners of the movies and television programs which they stream on their website. These agreements restrict Netflix to streaming their content within the US and a few approved countries only.

When you try to log onto to Netflix from a computer outside the US, your IP address gives away your location, blocking you from accessing Netflix. Therefore, to access Netflix from Israel, we’re going to need an American IP address.

Don’t worry if this sounds complicated. I can assure you that changing your IP address to an American IP address is very easy to do and only takes a few moments.

By far the easiest and quickest way to change your IP address is by using a Virtual Private Network, also called a VPN. A VPN is a private network that allows your computer to connect to a server (located in a different country like the US) while you connect to the world wide web through the remote server. This has the effect of changing your IP address so when you do connect to, it will look like you’re accessing the site from a computer in the US. Pretty cool, right?!

Getting Setup

Setting up a VPN is as easy as downloading a small piece of software. There are many VPN providers online. I know this because I’ve tried a bunch of them. Some a good, some are bad, and some are just terrible. Personally I’ve been using ExpressVPN for the last 2 years and I can’t say enough good things about this software.

As of today, in June 2013, ExpressVPN gives subscribers access to many VPN servers across multiple countries, giving you access to over 1000 IP addresses. ExpressVPN is also regularly adding VPN servers to there service which you can gain access to each and every month.

ExpressVPN is also super easy to setup and start using. Once the software is installed (it’s literally a 2 minute installation and it works on linux, windows, and mac) all you have to do is select the new ip address from the drop down menu and every application accessing the internet on your computer will immediately start connect to the internet through your new ip address.

After you’ve logged in you’ll see something like this…

This is what ExpressVPN looks like on a windows operating system.

No US Credit Card?

Occasionally non-US credit and debit cards are rejected by Netflix. If this happens to you it’s really no problem. It’s very easy to get a Virtual Debit card through a service

Here’s how this works!

  1. Create an account – should take you 2-5 minutes
  2. Add funds to the virtual debit card using your personal card
  3. Entropay will generate a virtual visa card with a real card number and expiration date for you to use.
Here’s a screenshot of what your virtual entropay card will look like:

Then you can use you virtual card to sign up for with no problems at all. I can confirm this method works. Just make sure you signup for entropay using all of your real information. When you sign up for Netflix be sure to provide the company with a zip code in the US like 14226 or 90210.

That’s literally all you need to know and all of this should take you under 10 minutes to complete.

If you have any questions I’ll be happy to answer them below in the comment section.

For now I’ll leave you with a big SHALOM and ENJOY Netflix in Israel.
