Updated – March 8th, 2016 – I can confirm that Buffered VPN is still working to accessing US Netflix in Thailand.

Note: The program I use to unblock and watch Netflix in Thailand is called Buffered VPN. You can learn more about HMA by visiting Buffered.com or by reading more below.

thailand_640.png 640×480Thailand is a easily one of the most beautiful countries I’ve ever visited. In 2014 I had the opportunity to spend 5 weeks in Bangkok and Phuket. I’ve gone back every year since.

While I could write an entire post about how amazing Thailand is as a country, that’s not what this post is about.

The internet in Thailand certainly isn’t the fastest internet I’ve ever used in the world. With that said, average download speeds are more than fast enough to stream HD quality videos and to do some decent downloading.

Thailand also isn’t the most “internet friendly” place I’ve been. When it comes to government censorship of websites, Thais don’t enjoy unrestricted use of the internet like we do in the west.

Specifically, porn is entirely censored in Thailand which is funny because sex tourism is wildly popular and prevalent in the country to this day. A bit of a double standard if you ask me.

Yet this post isn’t about sex tourism or porn 🙂 it’s about accessing Netflix in Thailand.

How To Watch US Netflix in Thailand in 2016

Netflix has recently expanding to Thailand. While this may seem like good news there is a catch. The Netflix library in Thailand is a small fraction of what is available in the United States of America.

A Netflix account in Thailand will give you access to 178 TV show titles and 515 movies. However US Netflix users pay the same price and have access to 1081 TV shows and 4579 movies.

The reason for this is because Netflix buys the rights to movies by region. Content owners and producers (i.e. the big movie studios) prevent Netflix from streaming their content worldwide without paying for the right to do in each geographic location.

But there is a bit of good news here.

You see you can access Thai Netflix content and US netflix content from the same Netflix account.

All you need to do is change your IP address to a US based IP address and you’ll be able to access Netflix.com as if you were in the US.

How To Change Your Thai IP address to a US IP address

Changing your IP address is incredibly easy thanks to VPN technology. VPN stands for Virtual Private Network which, in a nutshell, is a secure network that you connect to through your standard internet connection. Don’t worry if you’ve never used a VPN before or if you’ve never even heard of one. I assure you it’s super easy to understand and use.

Personally, I use a VPN service called Buffered VPN. I know the name sounds less than serious but this UK company has built an awesome piece of software that works on Windows, Mac OSX, Linux, Android and even iOS devices.

If you’re curious and want to know a bit more about Buffered you can read this review I wrote about the company.

Here is what Buffered VPN looks like after installation on my Macbook.

With Buffered you have instant access to servers and IP addresses from all over the world.

Buffered is incredibly easy to use and offers very fast server speeds which are important for streaming US netflix.
